Our 7am departure soon turned into 9am. Then we spent
almost 2 hours in Todos Santos looking for belt dressing to try and squelch
the horrendous squeal coming from the engine compartment. Boly got
pulled over by the cops for no apparent reason (whenever the police don't
get paid, they go out and stop all the gringos to solicit bribes) but we
finally made it out of Dodge intact.
The nerve wracking noise from the belts prompted a stop in La Paz where
I had them replaced and then got pulled over myself by a dirt bag cop for
no reason. He almost let me go and then decided to hassle me for
a passenger without a seat belt. After a bit of haggling, I finally
paid him 100 pesos to 'take care of it immediately' and avoid going down
to the station. Once we got out of La Paz it was easy sailing...
all the way to Puerto Escondido.
