About the Vehicles Mutation: After missing Burning Man 2008 due to circumstance, we are excited to come back to the playa and have undertaken a significant Evolution or "visual upgrade" to The Cosmic Cab Redux. Based upon a 1992 Yamaha chassis, the body transforms into a living creature. Metal, fabric and light make the creature crawl and come alive. A metal face has been welded on as well as a metal canopy. This year the body takes shape with intricate metal and fabric work. 360 degree lighting, some safety, some constant effect and some animated effect add to the creatures intrigue from a distance or up close.

Lighting Plans: The Cosmic Cab Redux has on board: halogen driving lights,tail lights, neon ground effect lighting, animated electroluminescent lighting by the hundreds of feet as well as multiple detail lighting sites (cab light, eyes, tail, etc).

Mutant Vehicle Intent: The Cosmic Cab Redux is in Black Rock City to serve Black Rock City. We are transportation for the masses. We are that unexpected ride across the playa. We are veteran burners (Laura's 11th, my 10th year) with a mix of good advice and monkey business. We drive the playa, giving rides, interacting with our fares, telling stories of past and future, documenting the experience, picking up moop and providing a watchful eye. We don't party like it's 1999 anymore. We carry lots of extra water for our passengers. We keep people hydrated and do our part to take care of those in need. Laura is an ex LEO and ex Regional. I am an ex Cab Driver and current member of the web team. Our past career skills work well for this service to the community.

Design Safety: Crew - Driver and Navigator. Visibility - colorful day design and well lit night design. Awareness - 360 degree visibility for the driver and navigator. Sound - modest personal sound system, horn and organic metallic noises make certain we are heard from a safe distance. Capacity - 4, easy to manage with seating for all. Extras - fire extinguisher, warm blankets and lots of potable water to share. Speed - adherence to city limits at all times. Courtesy - right or way awareness. While in reverse we have the annoying back up beeps.

Operating Procedures: This vehicle will only be operated by sober individuals. We take our key with us when we park. Only while stopped will people be allowed to enter or exit the vehicle. At night our driving halogens with the neon ground effect lighting illuminate 360 degrees for visual safety. We have a navigator assist the driver with spotting people, installations and moop (which we pick up if it can be done safely). Our concerns are safety, community and fun. We love the interactions but take MV operation seriously.
