LifeSpan
|
Like
any lighting source, el-wire will eventually need to be
replaced. Unlike traditional lighting sources however, your
cool neon el-wire will slowly fade so that you do not have
to worry about it going out completely while in use. You
will see it slowly dim and decide for yourself when you
want to replace it. The life span of el-wire will vary widely
(from ~1,000 to ~25,000 hours of continuous operation) depending
upon how much wire you are lighting and with what kind of
power. The manufacturer talks about the lifespan of LyTec
here. |

Wire
Size
|
Thicker
el-wire simply means thicker vinyl coating, the core is
the same for each type. The thicker the wire the more color
that radiates and the more durable, but less bendable. It
all depends upon how you will be using it. |

Angel
Hair
|
1.3mm
el-wire without the protective coating. Angel Hair holds
its shape and is great for lettering and fine detail. It
is not good for locations where it will be repeatedly bent
or harshed on by the weather. |
| Standard |
2.3mm
el-wire that holds its shape pretty well. It has a thin
coating of vinyl for color and protection. It is great for
detail where it will not flex a whole lot, like hats and
jackets. |
|
Phat
|
3.2mm
el-wire is a little less bendable and a little more durable.
It radiates more color with thicker vinyl coating and holds
up better with flexing. |

Hella Phat is hella cool, super thick. Great for bicycle
frames and large scale artworks. It radiates amazing color
and is cool to the touch. |

High
Brightness Shorter Life. This wire is super bright but has
a much reduced life span. It works great with strobing and
blinking drivers (which are lit for shorter cycles) or when
it will only be used for shorter periods of time (like a
week). Please ask
if you have questions. |

Raw
El-Wire
vs.
Plug-n-Play
|
The
cool neon el-wire on this page is raw wire so it can be
cut to any length up to a few hundred feet. It HAS NOT been
soldered with plug-n-play connections so that it can be
powered and lit up upon arrival. There is a tools list and
instruction set on the FAQ page if
you would like to solder yourself.
Plug-n-Play setups can be found in Just
Add Batteries and come all wired, tested and ready to
light, just attach to a plug-n-play driver or sequencer
and add batteries (or plug into the wall, or into your car
lighter, or ...) I will do custom plug-n-play lengths for
you if you want. Just order your el-wire from this page
and add a Solder Joint
for each connection that you want. It's easy! |
